The Changsha Rail Transit (Changsha Metro) is a city rail transit system serving Changsha, the capital city of Hunan Province, China. It includes subway systems, maglev systems, and more. The first line was opened on April 29, 2014, and its maglev express line is the first in China with completely independent intellectual property rights for a medium-low-speed maglev route.
As of June 2020, Changsha Rail Transit operates 6 lines: Line 1, Line 2, Line 3, Line 4, Line 5, and the Maglev Express, covering the entire urban area of Changsha and Changsha County. The network comprises 114 stations, including 12 transfer stations, with a total operating mileage of 161.05 kilometers.
As of December 2021, there are 6 lines under construction: Line 6, Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Intercity Rail Transit West Ring Line Phase I, Line 1 North Extension Phase I, Line 2 West Extension Phase II, Maglev Express East Extension, and Line 7 Phase I.
In the year 2021, the Changsha Rail Transit subway network transported a total of 585 million passengers, with an average daily ridership of 1.6 million. As of June 16, 2021, the highest daily ridership recorded for Changsha Rail Transit was 2.8512 million passengers on May 1, 2021 (excluding maglev express data).
