1. Introduction to the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences:
The Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry (ICC), Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a high-tech research institute mainly engaged in applied fundamental and high-tech research and development in the fields of energy and environment, advanced materials, and green chemical engineering.
The predecessor of the ICC was the Coal Research Office of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, established in 1954 at the Dalian Institute of Petroleum of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (now the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics). In 1961, the Coal Research Office was expanded into the Coal Chemistry Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and began relocating to Taiyuan. It was renamed the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry in September 1978 and has retained this name to date.
Since its establishment, ICC has been committed to meeting the strategic scientific and technological needs of national energy security, sustainable socio-economic development, and national defense security. It aims to address the efficiency of coal utilization and ecological environment issues and break through material bottlenecks that restrict the development of strategic emerging industries. The institute conducts directed basic research, key core technology, and major system integration innovations around clean and efficient coal utilization and the preparation and application of new carbon materials. From a laboratory with only 64 people, it has developed into a modern research institute with a complete system from basic research to process development to industrialization, with significant influence in related fields at home and abroad. As of the end of 2020, ICC has 476 employees, including 375 scientific and technical personnel, with 71 research fellows and senior engineers, and 124 associate research fellows and senior engineers. The institute includes four members of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Innovative Talent Promotion Plan, 14 academic leaders of Shanxi Province, and eight leading talents in emerging industries in Shanxi Province.
ICC owns the Taoyuan South Park in Taiyuan, Xiaodian Pilot Base, and the Yangzhou Carbon Fiber Engineering Technology Center. It operates the State Key Laboratory of Coal Conversion, the National Engineering Laboratory for Indirect Coal Liquefaction, the National Engineering Laboratory for Carbon Fiber Preparation Technology, the International Research and Development Center for Shanxi Coal Chemical Technology, and the National Engineering Research Center for Coal-based Synthesis established with the Lu’an Group. Additionally, it hosts the Key Laboratory of Carbon Materials of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Shanxi Province), the Shanxi Provincial Coal Gasification Engineering Research Center, the Shanxi Provincial Biorefinery Engineering Technology Research Center, the Shanxi Provincial Graphene Technology Engineering Research Center, and the Shanxi Provincial Carbon Fiber and Composite Materials Engineering Technology Research Center established with the Taiyuan Iron & Steel Group. The State Key Laboratory of Coal Conversion has partnered with Shell to set up the ICC-Shell Joint Laboratory of Coal Chemistry.
ICC is one of the first institutions approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee in 1981 to grant doctoral and master’s degrees. It currently has 41 doctoral supervisors and 76 master’s supervisors, offering Ph.D. and master’s programs in chemistry, chemical engineering and technology, and materials science and engineering. It also offers second-level disciplines in physical chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, chemical technology, and industrial catalysis, and a full-time professional master’s program in materials and chemical engineering. Furthermore, it has a postdoctoral research station in chemistry. There are 374 graduate students (141 master’s and 233 doctoral) and seven postdoctoral researchers at ICC.

3. Introduction of the Rubber Expansion Joint for Exhaust Gas Treatment Vehicle at ICC:
Displacement Performance: Excellent elasticity allows the joint to adapt well to compression, stretching, twisting, and vertical displacement due to deflection. It prevents damage to the pipeline system caused by thermal expansion, contraction, or uneven foundation settlement.
Vibration Damping and Noise Absorption
The rubber material of the sphere has high damping properties, effectively cushioning vibrations, suppressing, and reducing mechanical vibrations, and absorbing fluid impact noise.
Proper installation between vibrating machinery and metal pipelines can reduce the transmission of structural noise.
Pressure Resistance: The multi-layer sphere structure is especially suitable for withstanding internal pressure, with strong burst resistance and impact resistance, and maintains shape under external pressure.
