The Hainan-Hong Kong International Submarine Cable System Engineering has successfully landed in Wenchang, Hainan. As the most important transmission pipeline of international communication networks, the submarine optical cable system is not only the infrastructure of international communication information but also the “central nervous system” of the global Internet. The planned land area is 3,666.23 square meters (equivalent to 5.50 acres), with China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd. Hainan Branch as the construction unit. The total construction area of the project is 3,784.63 square meters, with a calculated construction area of 3,352.63 square meters, a plot ratio of 0.91, a building density of 34.76%, a green area ratio of 22.32%, a building height of 3 floors, 10 parking spaces, and 2 electric vehicle charging parking spaces. According to the plan of China Mobile, international cable landing stations, international business bureaus, and data centers for free trade ports will also be built simultaneously, making Hainan a leading international cable hub in the Asia-Pacific region, serving the information needs of Chinese companies going global along the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as the international data communication development needs of countries and regions along the Maritime Silk Road.
The Hainan-Hong Kong Submarine Cable System Engineering connects three landing points: Wenchang in Hainan, Hengqin in Zhuhai, and Chung Hom Kok in Hong Kong. The main section from Hainan to Hong Kong is approximately 562 kilometers long, and the branch section from Zhuhai is approximately 113 kilometers long. This project is the first international submarine cable in Hainan and the first 16-pair ultra-large-capacity relay cable system in China. It serves as an important communication infrastructure for the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port and the support of Hainan’s open Internet. After completion, it will be used for commercial purposes to achieve interconnection and interoperability among Hainan, Hong Kong, and Zhuhai.
