1.Introduction to Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Project:

Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station in Guangxi is one of the 23 key projects launched in 2010 as part of the Western Development Plan. It is located in Hongsha Village, Guangxi Autonomous Region, Gangkou District, Fangchenggang City, on the east side of Qisha Peninsula. The project is jointly invested in by China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group and Guangxi Investment Group. China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group is primarily responsible for project construction and operation management. The plan is to construct six 1-million-kilowatt nuclear power units. It is the first nuclear power project initiated in the western and minority areas of China, officially commencing power generation in October 2015.

With the rapid economic development in the central and western regions of China, the demand for electricity is increasing. The existing power generation capacities, such as thermal and hydroelectric power, are no longer sufficient to meet the needs of regional economic development, highlighting the contradiction between power supply and demand. In Guangxi, hydroelectric resources have been essentially developed, and there is a shortage of primary energy sources such as coal and natural gas. In such circumstances, the development of nuclear power becomes an ideal choice.

The Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station in Guangxi plans to construct six 1-million-kilowatt nuclear power units with a total investment of approximately 70 billion RMB. The project follows a phased construction approach. The first phase of the project adopts the China Improved Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) nuclear technology, CPR1000, to construct two pressurized water reactor nuclear units with a single-unit capacity of 1.08 million kilowatts each. The domestication rate of equipment exceeds 80%, with an investment of about 28 billion RMB.
