1.Xiamen Metro Line 1 Introduction:

Line 1 of Xiamen Metro runs from south to north through Xiamen, connecting important clusters in Siming District, Huli District, and Jimei District. It passes through the bustling old urban area where the surroundings of the stations are densely built with complex underground pipelines due to the rich water and sand layers and the uneven settlement of the ground. The presence of isolated rocks and protruding bedrocks adds to the complexity of the geological conditions, making it one of the most challenging subway lines for construction in China.

Xiamen Metro Line 1 is the first line to be opened and operated in Xiamen Metro. It is a north-south line in the Xiamen rail transit network, operated by Xiamen Rail Transit Group Co., Ltd. The construction of the line started partially on November 13, 2013, and was fully commenced in April 2014. The entire line was connected in March 2017, and trial operation began on December 31, 2017.

Xiamen Metro Line 1 has a total length of 30.3 kilometers with 24 stations, including 17 regular stations and 5 interchange stations. It starts from Zhenhai Road Station in the southern part of Siming District on Xiamen Island, connects important clusters in Siming District, Huli District, and Jimei District, and ends at Yan’nei Station in Houxi Town, Jimei District. It serves as the backbone line for the rapid cross-sea connection from the island of Xiamen to Jimei District, with a high-speed parking lot at Gaoqi.

Xiamen Metro Line 1 (Zhenhai Road to Yan’nei) serves as the radial backbone line from Xiamen Island to Jimei, establishing a rapid cross-sea connection between Xiamen Island and Jimei District and serving Xiamen North Station. The line is marked in Minnan red color.

Xiamen Metro Line 1 has a total length of 30.3 km with 24 stations. It runs mainly in a north-south direction, connecting important areas in Siming District, Huli District, and Jimei District, and serves as the backbone line for the rapid cross-sea connection from the island to the north. The line runs along the important south-north development axis of the city, starting from Zhenhai Road Station in Siming District, along Zhenhai Road, Wenyuan Road, Hubin Middle Road, Hubin South Road, and Jiahe Road. It is laid on the Gaolou and Xijin causeways in high-level and surface ways across the sea. After crossing the sea, it is re-laid underground along Xingjin Road, Chengyi Street, and the planned Hengshan Road in Houxi Town, Jimei District, ending at Yan’nei Station north of Xiamen North Station.

Xiamen Metro Line 1 has a total of 24 stations, with only one station, Jimei University Town, on the cross-sea section being elevated, while the others are all underground stations. The average distance between stations is 1.3 km, with 14 stations on the island, an average distance of 1.0 km between stations; 1 station on the cross-sea section, an average distance of 3.3 km between stations; and 9 stations outside the island, an average distance of 1.4 km between stations. There are 7 interchange stations in total. A high-speed parking lot is set up at the north end of the island, and a comprehensive maintenance base is set up at Qigou north of Jimei New Town. Two main substations and one control center are set up along the line.

Xiamen Metro Line 1 operates from 6:30 to 22:30 daily. The single journey from Zhenhai Road Station to Yan’nei Station takes 52 minutes, with an operating speed of 35 km/h and a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Line 1 trains adopt the B-type train configuration, with a capacity of approximately 1400 passengers per train, manufactured by CRRC Tangshan Co., Ltd.

Xiamen Metro Line 1 originally had a branch line as a network filling line, located in the Jimei cluster in the north of the city, connecting the Xinglin and Guankou areas with the main line of Line 1 to achieve rapid connection between this area and the island. The line had a total length of 9.5 kilometers, with 6 stations and an average station spacing of 1.6 kilometers. The northern end of the line was set up with the Tiantou Village parking lot. After expert consultation and research, the branch line of Xiamen Metro Line 1 was canceled.
