1.China Geological Exploration Bureau – Drilling Exploration Vessel Information:

The Ocean Drilling Vessel belongs to the China Geological Survey under the Ministry of Natural Resources. With a design displacement of 42,000 tons, it has the capability to operate in unlimited navigation areas globally and conduct drilling operations in waters exceeding 10,000 meters, making it China’s first ultra-deepwater scientific drilling vessel. The vessel is planned to be equipped with 10 categories of advanced onboard equipment, forming nine laboratories covering all fields of marine research. It will also include, for the first time, internationally top-standard paleomagnetic and ultra-clean laboratories. Overall equipment and comprehensive operational capabilities will be at the forefront internationally. The construction of the Ocean Drilling Vessel started on November 30, 2021, and after one year, the main hull structure was completed and assembled, achieving through-hull connection. Subsequent work will include onboard equipment installation and commissioning, dock trials, etc., with completion expected by 2024. On the same day, the “Marine Geology II” multi-functional new type of scientific research vessel slowly docked at the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey Dock of the China Geological Survey Bureau, marking the official commissioning of China’s first deep-sea scientific research dock and the largest specialized scientific research dock in China, further enhancing China’s deep-sea exploration base security capabilities. The North Pier of the China Geological Survey’s Ocean Drilling Vessel was put into use in Qingdao, Shandong. The pier is one of the home ports of China’s deep-sea exploration “national treasure” – the Ocean Drilling Vessel. The Ocean Drilling Vessel is China’s first independently designed and built ultra-deepwater scientific research vessel for drilling to 10,000 meters in the deep sea, with the capability of operating in unlimited navigation areas globally.

The Ocean Drilling Vessel has broken through more than 10 key technologies such as comprehensive optimization of hydrodynamic performance and modular layout of operation systems. It has two main operation modes: oil and gas drilling and deep-sea scientific drilling. After completion, it will mainly undertake deep-sea scientific drilling tasks in major national science and technology projects and international large-scale scientific programs.
