Project Name: Material Procurement Project for the Renovation of Cooling Water Pipeline of Unit A Main Transformer in Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station
Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station (referred to as Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station) is affiliated with the Peak Load Regulation and
Frequency Regulation Power Generation Company of China Southern Power Grid. It is located in Conghua, Guangzhou, known for its “hot springs and lychees,” about 120 kilometers from Guangzhou by road. The total installed capacity of Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station is 2400MW. It is China’s first self-designed and constructed high-head, large-capacity pumped storage project and currently the world’s largest pumped storage power station.
The hub project of Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station consists of upper reservoir, lower reservoir, water diversion system, underground powerhouse caverns, and outgoing line field. The natural drop between the upper and lower reservoirs is over 500 meters.
The entire project is divided into two phases of construction, installing 8 units of 300MW reversible pumped storage units, with a design head of 535 meters and a design comprehensive efficiency of 76%. The project started construction on May 25, 1989, the first unit generated electricity on June 29, 1993, and it was fully completed in June 2000. During the construction of the project, Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station pioneered the implementation of the “owner responsibility system,” “tendering system,” and “construction supervision system” in China. In order to summarize and promote the experience and achievements gained in the project construction, the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Electricity successively held experience exchange meetings on engineering construction management at Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station in January 1991 and June 1995.
