On December 17, 2014, the construction of Chongqing Hanhai Polar Ocean Park officially started in Banan District. As the largest comprehensive ocean park in the southwest region, it was completed in 2017. After completion, Chongqing residents could easily observe various marine life.
Chongqing Hanhai Polar Ocean Park is located in the Longzhou Bay Tongjiang Plaza of Banan District, in the core area of Banan Riverside Urban Economic Belt, between Paipu Port and Yangpu Port. With an investment of 800 million yuan and covering an area of about 310 acres, it is divided into three parts: Polar Ocean World, Water Park, and Adventure Park. According to the project leader, the ‘Polar Ocean World’ is the core of the ocean park, featuring four main theme venues: Tropical Rainforest Pavilion, Ocean Life Pavilion, Polar Animal Pavilion, and Animal Performance Pavilion.
The Chongqing Hanhai Polar Ocean Biological Science Museum signed a formal investment cooperation agreement with Banan District on September 15, 2012. The construction was undertaken by the Singapore Yao Tai Investment Group. The main construction includes the Ocean Pavilion, Polar Pavilion, Tropical Rainforest Pavilion, Animal Performance Pavilion, and a five-star hotel. The project has completed the pre-construction work such as project approval, site selection opinions, conceptual design, and company registration. The project was expected to start construction in September of the same year and be open to the public in 2015.
The ocean park covers a construction area of 58,000 square meters and occupies about 170 acres. The five-star hotel covers an area of about 8-10 thousand square meters and occupies about 50 acres. After completion, the project is expected to generate an annual tax of about 30 million yuan.
The official entry of the Polar Ocean Park not only provides Chongqing residents with a leisure and entertainment venue and a marine science popularization base but also accelerates the development progress of Chongqing Riverside Vitality Zone (CAZ), continuously enhances the urban image of Banan, and increases Banan’s competitiveness and radiation power.
On March 20, Banan signed an agreement with Singapore Yao Tai Investment Group to relocate the originally planned ‘Chongqing Hanhai Polar Ocean Park’ from Li Jiatuo to the Longzhou Bay area.
It is reported that the project includes Chongqing Hanhai Polar Ocean Park, Water Park, five-star hotels, and other sub-projects, with a total investment of about 320 million USD and a total land area of about 360 acres. Among them: the total investment in the ocean park is about 100 million USD, the total investment in the water park is about 50 million USD, and the total investment in the five-star hotel is about 170 million USD. The project is currently the largest ocean-themed park in the west.
As the largest ocean park in the southwest, the project will construct various venues, including Tropical Rainforest Pavilion (including Coral Exhibition Area, Jellyfish Exhibition Area, Tropical Rainforest Exhibition Area), Ocean Pavilion (including Shark Exhibition Area, Children’s Aquarium), Polar Pavilion (including Polar Bear Exhibition Area, Arctic Wolf, Arctic Fox Exhibition Area, Beluga Whale Exhibition Area, Penguin Exhibition Area), and an animal performance pavilion, along with a supporting five-star hotel.
